Description: | This course is designed to help students understand the science of fitness and how this knowledge can be applied to their life now and in the future. In this course students will assess their current level of fitness and then make a plan to increase their physical fitness, maintain a healthy weight, and practice effective stress management. Students will learn the benefits of routine physical activity, how to prepare for physical activity, how to measure and assess cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength and endurance, and flexibility, and incorporate them in an exercise program. They will learn the major components of nutrition and a healthy diet, identify strategies for effective weight management, identify common symptoms and sources of stress, along with stress coping strategies, and how to make informed decisions to achieve lifetime fitness. NOTE: May also be used for science credit.
