Description:This is a comprehensive introductory visual arts course. The course begins with the elements of art and principles of design to give students a strong basis for understanding art. The course then integrates art appreciation with art production and art history to give students meaningful opportunities to contemplate art throughout history. This course introduces students to a wide array of artistic works as it examines painting, sculpture, and architecture from ancient times until the present. Appreciating Art provides an overview of the artistic works of many different cultures. This course was created in collaboration with the Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha, Nebraska, and incorporates many digitized artworks from the museum.
