Overview:
The language of the health profession is presented in this dual-credit course for upper level high school students. Hundreds of vocabulary terms and meanings are presented. Basic knowledge of word parts and mastery of the skill of breaking complex terms down into word parts is emphasized. Students earn three-hours of college credit through Mid-Plains Community College. Using the workbook, Medical Terminology for Health Professions Sixth Edition 2009, the structure and function of the human body will be introduced. This course is designed for students pursuing careers in allied health fields and who have minimal background in physical and biological sciences with a review of chemistry necessary to understand biological processes.

The CODEC system will provide visual contact to use Power Points,
discussions, games, videos and a variety of learning options. Schoology a course management system will be used for the delivery of assignments and test taking. It is ultimately up to each student to make and study flashcards, complete the workbook, listen to Audio CD's-downloads and use all available resources to learn the information.
Grades are recorded on Power School.

Comments:Class time may change depending on Arcadia HS schedule. M-Th. 2:40-3:30 (+/- 5 min) Class on Friday is from 1:36-2:17 and flexible as a study hall if schedules don't align.

Comments:This class will be held during our 8th period which from 2:40-3:30 P.M.  The times are flexible and should not cause a problem with assignments. Friday we run a shorter time from 1:36 dismissing at 2:17 so that is usually a work day for students. I dial in as needed. Codec Life Size, texting, google docs and e-mail all assist with communications.
Cost:3 Credit Hours ($321.00 = $107 x 3 Gen. Ed. Hrs.) to Mid-Plains CC due Oct. 1st plus Workbook costs if receiving school won't cover costs.
