Description:This second semester course focuses on the history of nations and regions around the globe from about 1700 to the present. Students begin by examining the main figures and political views of the Enlightenment, the impact of the revolutions around the globe, and the Industrial Revolution. The study of political systems and the growth of Western democracies and global imperialism then help set the stage for understanding the causes and effects of world-wide conflicts in the twentieth century. Finally, this course will examine the global political, social, and economic issues, as well as international relations in today's world.
