Description:Course Objective:                           

The purpose of these classes is to prepare students to meet the National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS*S): Creativity and Innovation; Communication and Collaboration; Research and Information Fluency; Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making; Digital Citizenship; Technology Operations and Concepts.

 As a student in this course, you will explore various types of open source software, become a proficient Google account user, reflect on current topics in technology, and learn the most important topics of Adobe Animate, Adobe Illustrator, and Google SketchUp Pro. You’ll start off with a brief introduction to the beginnings of Flash. You’ll then learn about creating graphics, text, and gradients, how to use symbols, Panels, and layering; create animations, blends, and complex objects; optimize and publish movies. You’ll integrate Flash and Illustrator with other programs, and wrap up the course with a unit using Google SketchUp. Supplemental resources and various open source software will be used as they are available free for use beyond high school, while Adobe Creative Suite: Flash, Fireworks, Photoshop, Illustrator, Soundbooth , & Dreamweaver is taught post-secondary and on the job, i.e. Cabela’s Corporation.

Course Description
Students will focus on developing advanced skills to plan, design, and create interactive projects using elements of texts, graphics, and digital imaging. These skills will help prepare students for entry-level positions in the digital design field. Students will demonstrate proper use of copyright and fair use throughout the course.
 * CIS.HS.1.11      Identify project’s message and mission.
 * CIS.HS.1.12      Design graphics, text, and/or presentations to clearly express one’s views for the intended audience.
 * CIS.HS.1.13      Examine careers in graphic arts or digital communications industries.
** CIS.HS.1.14      Evaluate digital media projects for voice, message, visual appeal, or content.
 * CIS.HS.1.15      Demonstrate design principles and concepts.
 * CIS.HS.1.16       Demonstrate photography principles of design and composition rules.
** CIS.HS.1.17       Analyze and comply with copyright laws.


Students must have access to multiple digital devices, such as:  iPad, Chrome book, laptop, smart phone, digital camera, video recording device, and microphone. Students must also have access to a computer with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash (Animate), version CS6 or later, and access to dependable Internet connectivity to utilize individual and district Google (GAFE) accounts. 

If Adobe software is needed for the purpose of this course, an additional $100 fee applies or schools may purchase individual software applications directly from Adobe, including but not limited to Photoshop, Illustrator, Animate, In Design, and Premier Pro. Additional software & applications (apps) may need installed on devices, but these will be free to the participating districts. Districts must also agree to delete software off machines if/when student is no longer participating in these classes.

Comments:Students will need access to laptops/PCs, Windows platform, with internet access. Students also need access to iPads, Chromebooks, &/or mobile device with camera. As an enrolled student of Minatare Public Schools, students will be provided Adobe CS4 Software, used exclusively by students enrolled in these Digital Design classes. Adobe CS4 will need to be installed on student computers with Windows platform (PCs or laptops), with the understanding that all Adobe CS4 software will be uninstalled at the end of the course. Minatare has purchased for use the latest editions of Adobe Creative Suite for students use; however, if the new Adobe software is needed for the purpose of this course, an additional $100 fee applies or schools may purchase individual software applications directly from Adobe, including but not limited to Photoshop, Illustrator, Animate, In Design, and Premier Pro.
